A Data scientist makes value out of data, making it beneficial to the company or institution.   1. Identify areas of opportunities- translating your client’s request into a well-defined problem.
  2. Collect of unstructured data from different data sources.
  3. Process raw data(Data Wrangling)- cleaning up and organizing the data, ready for analysis. 
  4. Perform Data analysis using the below methods:

    • statistical models(the use of statistics to build a representation of the data)
    • algorithms(a process or set of rules to be followed)
  5. Transform data towards the solution(data management solution or big data solution).
  6. Communicate and Implement the result for better business decisions and Data visualization.

In addition to the above process, they are also expected to do the following roles:

  • Create A/B testing (split testing) is a powerful tool used in product development. It is considered as the simplest form of a controlled experiment. 
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.

3. What are they like? (The Job Specification)

  1. Finished Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, or Economics. 
  2. Has earned mastery or expertise on below Technical skillsets:
    • Familiarity with statistical computer languages(Python, SLQ), Programming Languages (Java, C++, Python, R) databases like SQL, machine learning, and reporting technologies.
    • Experience with data mining techniques(GLM or Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis), and data analytics.
    • Build and implement models, use, create, and run algorithms and simulations.
    • Has in-depth experience in using below Data Science Tools:

  3. Knowledgeable in Programming skills
