UX Designer Job Description

The majority of you might either be an Android or IOS user. Are you currently satisfied with your device or applications?

Our User Experience Designers, popularly known as UX designers, are the ones responsible for these types of products and programs. They are tasked to voice out user feedback and coordinate with User Interface Designers, also known as UI Designers, to create the aesthetics and the functionality based on user needs.

In this article, we’ll shed you some light on how UX Designers indirectly impact our daily lives, making them one of the highest in-demand jobs you can do remotely. (see Top 7 Milwaukee Jobs You Can Do Remotely in 2020). With this inflation, we’ll also be sharing a consolidated list of Job Description and Job specification of an ideal UX designer.

UX and UI Design Jobs, as mentioned above, are quite different but definitely interrelated to each other. Some companies even opt to hire just one person to do the job since you barely can tell the difference between the two(2) digital products and processes. The simplest way to differentiate both is that UX design is all about the overall experience, while UI design is all about the product’s features and functionality. (see The Difference Between UX And UI Design – A Layman’s Guide)

With the continuous technological breakthroughs and discovery of different approach towards efficiency and automation, there came these digital design roles in different job ads to fulfill the need of below industries:

  • Software development companies
  • Financial services firms
  • Banks
  • Technology consultancies
  • Telecommunications companies
  • Public sector organizations

Opportunities are everywhere for these Product Designers. In fact, investments on these professionals have recently poured out. Now, it’s the responsibility of the Hiring Managers to identify the perfect one for their team. With that being said, I’ll be sharing with you 4 reasons why UX Designers are considered as one of the significant contributors in society.

1. Elevate the quality of life

UX Designers work on the technological discoveries that aim to make things accessible and automated. This brings efficiency to the users, which is the main business goal of all industries, investing in such roles.

If you’re going to think about it, without them, it will leave us all enduring the use of bar phones, calling directory assistants for directions, and even keeping the old encyclopedias for research and facts. Who would have thought that these professionals will be able to design ideas or even design projects like smartphones, the Waze application, and Google.

These products and services are the reasons why people have the ability to multitask, fulfill multiple roles, and have the best of both worlds.

2. Apply and Test Principles for Future Reference

In today’s growing market for software, computer programs, and as simple as our phone applications, UX design roles have become increasingly important. Some of their roles and responsibilities require consistency which makes the design process easier for future designers, as they don’t have to reinvent every time they take on a new project. In line with this, below are some of the common tasks of our UX Designers.

  1. Our contributors are expected to have enough knowledge to make use of these Industry tools(Invision, Illustrator, Adobe, Photoshop) to be effective as they should be.
  2. They should observe the principles of the Product Development Process or UX Design as a guide. Below is an overview of a typical UX Design process:
    • User Research ( Get to know your audience and create your own list pf Personas)
    • Identify user needs
    • Ideate (generate Ideas based on the above)
    • Creation of the following:
      • Storyboards-(visual representation of how the product is used)
      • User Flowchart (how users should move through a system, promotes awareness and understanding of a system)
      • Sitemaps(A clearly organized collection of all the pages and subpages within your site)
      • Wireframing/Wireframe(basic and visual guides that represent the skeletal framework of web pages and provide a preview of your site’s look and feel, however, doesn’t look anything like the real finished product )
      • Mockups(not interactive but rather a graphic representation of the finished product
      • Prototyping/Prototype(a representation which is already very close to the finished product, often to a point where it’s mimicking the interaction)
    • Complete Evaluation Process(includes testing and iteration if needed)

3. Satisfy User’s needs

UX Designer’s main objective is to provide positive experiences that keep users loyal to the product or brand. This is possible by proper execution of the below processes:

  1. User testing- This research method will give you your users’ patterns of behavior, preferences, and opinions, in order to implement this feedback for a more successful product.
  2. usability testing- This is a way to see how easy to use something is. No matter how aesthetically pleasing your work is, it won’t strike a chord with the user unless it is safe and easy to use.
  3. Iterate/ iterative design process– this is a concept which basically means doing the same thing over and over again in order to achieve the desired result and also necessary for product/process improvement.

At the end of the day, the major goal is to achieve and enhance favorable human-computer interaction.

4. Ensure Employment

Since there’s a continuous demand for these roles from different industries(as mentioned above), it definitely answers the society’s need for employment. It will surely ensure everyone with opportunities in this field.

With this, below is a list of qualifications that will make your application stand out:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Psychology, Visual Design, Communications, Engineering or a similar field.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical skills
  • Years of experience with Project Management and familiarity with coding languages-CSS, HTML, Javascript
